Best (& Simple) Winter Car Prep Tips

Even if you don’t consider yourself the most handy of drivers, you can still properly prepare your car for this coming winter. Here are some effective and simple winter car prep tips that any driver can do:

  • Battery Test: Now’s a great time to test your Honda vehicle’s battery. Colder weather can cause your battery to have to work harder, making it harder to start.
  • Tire Pressure: Colder weather also has an impact on your vehicle’s tires and can cause them to deflate often. Be sure to check your vehicle’s tire pressure and have your tires properly inflated if you need to.
  • Winter Tire: Winter tires are designed with winter in mind as they have a better grip than regular tires. This will help you drive safer as more snow falls on the ground.
  • Brake Check: As more snow falls on the ground, the ground becomes wet, which can cause rust build-up on your vehicle’s brakes. This can lead to your brakes wearing out faster, so check your brakes to see if they’re working properly.
  • Coolant Levels: Check your coolant reservoir to see if your car has the right amount of coolant in it. It might need a top-off if levels are below the “Full” line.
  • Oil Change: Oil is the lifeblood of your car, so to make sure your car runs smoothly during winter, be sure to schedule an oil change if it’s been a while.
  • Wiper Fluid/Wiper Blades: If you’ve ever driven around Hubbard during heavy winter, then you know how hard it can be to see if your windshield wipers aren’t working properly. Make sure that your wipers are working and that you have enough windshield wiper fluid in your car. You might want to even think about getting freeze-resistant wiper fluid.
  • Fuel Levels: If your fuel tank is too low, then moisture can actually build up and dilute your fuel. This means your car’s fuel pump has to work harder, so we recommend making sure your fuel tank is nearly full.
  • Heater Check: One of the biggest things that you should check up on is your car’s heater. As temperatures drop outside, the temperature inside your car also drops, which is why it’s important to keep your heater working.
