What’s the Proper Way to Jump-Start a Car Battery?

If your car needs a jump-start around Hubbard, then you’ll need two things: a set of jumper cables and another driver with a working vehicle. Once you have those two things, you’re ready to give your Honda vehicle a jump-start. Here’s how to jump-start your car’s battery:

  1. Park your car and the working car next to each other, and make sure that both front ends are facing each other, bumper to bumper.
  2. Turn off both cars, and make sure their parking brakes are set.
  3. Locate the batteries on both vehicles.
  4. Find the positive and negative terminals on both batteries, and make sure they don’t have any corrosion or other kind of damage.
  5. Take your jumper cables, and connect a red clamp to the positive terminal on your car’s battery. Make sure that the red and black clamps don’t touch each other as you’re doing this.
  6. Connect the black clamp to the negative terminal on your car’s battery.
  7. Connect the other black clamp to the negative terminal on the other car’s battery.
  8. Connect the other red terminal to the positive terminal on the other car’s battery.
  9. Once you have all the cables connected, start up the other car.
  10. Let the car run for about 5-10 minutes.
  11. After about 5-10 minutes, start up your vehicle.
  12. Once your car starts, let it run for about 10-15 minutes so that the battery won’t die again. after you drive off.
  13. After both cars have been running, carefully remove the cables from the battery, making sure that no cable ends touch one another.

After that, you’re good to head back out on the Grove City roads! Now that you know the proper way to jump-start your car, you can be ready if your car’s battery ever gives out on you. For other helpful service and parts tips, check out our website at Shenango Honda!

What If Your Car Won’t Jump-Start?

Sometimes, you may have to call jump-start car service if you don’t have the proper tools to jump-start the car yourself. But, what if your car won’t jump-start at all? Here are some reasons why your car may not be starting:

  • If you only hear a slight clicking sound when attempting to start your car, then the starter may be at fault.
  • If all of the electrical components of the car turn on, but the engine doesn’t start, then you could have a faulty ignition switch, starter, or fuse, but it could also be a number of other reasons.
  • The battery could be dead and may need to be replaced altogether.

If your car isn’t jump-starting, then you’ll need to schedule service with Shenango Honda ASAP as the battery may need to be replaced, or something more major may need to be serviced. You might have to have your vehicle towed if it won’t start, but Shenango Honda can help you get your car running like new again right away!
